The Philip Recto Design Excellence Awards instituted by the UP College of Architecture announced that Michael Go and Monnica Manalo have left for Singapore recently to join Architects 61, one of the best architectural firms in Asia.
Both magna cum laude graduates, Go and Manalo will formally start their 2-year training with Architects 61 in Singapore soon and join other Philip Recto awardees at the same firm.
Founded in 1974, Architects 61 has designed many landmarks in Singapore, among them are the Raffles City Complex, Treasury Bldg., UOB Plaza, Singapore Exchange Center, Fullerton Square and Fort Canning Country Club. The firm also has offices in Kuala Lumpur and Shanghai.
The Philip Recto Award program started in 2000. It gives recognition to top design theses and also assists the awardees to obtain oversea training with renowned architectural firms in Singapore or Kuala Lumpur for a 2-year period with attractive remunerations.
Architect Recto himself started his professional career in Singapore where he was the architect-in-charge of International Plaza, the first 50-storey building in Singapore.
